 Firestopping is a type of "passive fire protection system" that can produce a "Fire-Resistance Rating" (how long the system can withstand a fire.)  Firestops are designed to maintain the fireproofing of a wall or floor assembly allowing it to stop or slow the spread of fire and smoke.

 Fireproofing is a type of spray-on protection that protects steel structures & floor assemblies with a Fire-Resistance Rating. Fireproofing helps protect the steel from high heat therefore preserving the structural integrity of the structural member & stability of the structure.
